Below an Iraqi tells the story of his friend, a Fallujan, who barely survived the sectarianism that the U.S. brought to Iraq. For more information on the sectarianism and death squads, see these links: http://thefallujahproject.org/home/node/53

"I have this story of a survivor of a severe massacre. He is a graduate from the engineering department of my University. He was in his 2nd year of studies in 2006. He was from Fallujah and studied at a university in Baghdad . . . he was living in the same building that im staying in to right now."
"In June 2006 he had his final Exams. After his exam one day he came back from the university to his flat. He was sleeping at 4 pm in the afternoon. Suddenly he woke up by his brother telling him there were Shia militia attacking the student flats looking for young sunni men."
"He and 9 of his roommates climbed through the ducts near his flat to the roof. He was so lucky that he kept alive with his brother, because 3 flats full of sunni guys were kidnapted and they only found 1 of their bodies."
These are the horrors that Iraqis have lived with everyday since our country invaded theirs in 2003. Stories like this one are not rare. Over 1 million Iraqis have died since the invasion, and the pain and trauma of these events is deeply engrained into the hearts of Iraqis today. Americans may have already forgotten about our occupation of Iraq, but Iraqis have not.
